Most overland builds turn into a pile of parts from a dozen brands and a lot of hoping they fit together. Overland Vehicle Systems takes the other approach: build the whole system.

Start with an OVS Expedition truck cap — steel wing-door construction, integrated roof rails, and a crossbar load rating that carries a rooftop tent — then add the tent, the awning, and the recovery gear from the same brand, designed to work as one setup.

And because OVS prices its gear for people who actually use it, the full build costs a lot less than you’d expect, leaving budget for fuel, food, and the next trip.

At Offroad Alliance, we carry the OVS lineup across truck caps, rooftop tents, awnings, and recovery gear, with fitment for the Toyota Tacoma and Tundra, Ford F-150 and Ranger, Chevy Silverado and Colorado, GMC Sierra and Canyon, Ram 1500 and HD, Jeep Gladiator, and more.

Not sure how the pieces go together on your truck? Our team will help you plan the build — from the cap up.

Truck Caps

The Foundation of the Build

The OVS Expedition truck cap is where a real overland rig starts. Steel construction with an e-coat and textured black powder coat, full wing doors on gas-assist struts, MOLLE-PAL channels for mounting gear, and integrated roof rails that accept OVS crossbars rated for 325 lb on the move and 750 lb parked — enough to carry a rooftop tent and sleep up top.

It clamps on with no drilling on most applications and installs in an afternoon. Choose the Expedition for a secure, versatile cap, or step up to the Expedition Pro+ for full-glass wing doors and hatch. See how they compare below.

Rooftop Tents

Sleep Up Top, Anywhere You Park

A rooftop tent turns any pullout into a campsite — flat, off the ground, and set up in minutes. OVS offers soft-shell tents like the Nomadic and TMBK series for maximum space and value, and hard-shell options like the Mamba for faster setup and a sleeker profile on the road.

Paired with an Expedition cap and OVS crossbars, you get a tent-ready platform that keeps your bed free for gear. Always check the tent’s listed weight against your rack’s dynamic rating — our build guide below shows you how.

Awnings

Instant Shade. Instant Camp.

An awning is the fastest way to make camp feel like camp — shade for lunch, cover for cooking in the rain, and a defined living space around your truck.

OVS Nomadic awnings come in 180° and 270° designs: a 180° covers one side or the rear, while a 270° wraps from the side around the back to create a large covered area around the truck. They mount to OVS crossbars and roof racks and deploy in minutes without tools.

Recovery

Go Farther. Get Home.

The farther your build takes you, the farther you are from help. OVS recovery gear closes that gap at a value price: winches, recovery boards, straps, shackles, and complete kits built for the self-reliant traveler.

It’s the part of the system you hope you never use — and the part that turns a stuck truck into a twenty-minute detour instead of a ruined trip. Not sure what size winch you need? See our winch sizing guide on the Recovery page.

OVS Truck Cap Comparison

OVS Expedition vs. Expedition Pro+: Which Truck Cap Is Right for You?

Both OVS Expedition caps share the same foundation — steel 5-piece modular construction, full wing doors, integrated roof rails, and the same crossbar load ratings. The difference is glass. The Expedition keeps more of the cap solid for security, privacy, and a clean look, while the Expedition Pro+ goes full-window on the wing doors and rear hatch for maximum visibility and light. Here’s how they line up.

Dynamic vs. Static — Know the Difference

Dynamic load (325 lb) is what the crossbars can carry while you’re driving. Static load (750 lb) is what they support parked — which is why a rack that carries a tent on the highway can also hold the tent with two people sleeping in it.

Which Is Right for You?

If the cap mostly carries tools, bikes, or gear you’d rather keep out of sight, the Expedition is the call. If you sleep in the bed, want natural light, or want to see your load and blind spots, go Pro+.

Both Are Tent-Ready

Add OVS crossbars and either cap becomes a rooftop-tent platform. See the build guide below to check your load math before choosing your tent and rack setup.

Fitment Exceptions

Not compatible with Ram RamBox trims or GM CarbonPro beds. Tacoma applications require one small hole for wiring. *Jeep Gladiator applications use the factory tailgate brake light.

Build the Complete System

Build Your OVS Rig: How the System Stacks Up

The advantage of building with one brand is that the pieces are designed to go together. Here’s how an OVS build comes together, from the bed up — and how to make sure it all stays inside its ratings.

An OVS Expedition or Expedition Pro+ secures the bed and becomes the mounting platform for everything else.

Load Math

Will a Rooftop Tent Work on My Cap?

Your rooftop load while driving has to stay under the 325 lb dynamic rating of OVS crossbars on an Expedition cap. Add it up:

Tent weight + Crossbar weight + Everything else on the roof = Total rooftop load

Under 325 lb, you’re good to drive. Once you’re parked, the 750 lb static rating covers the tent plus the people sleeping in it. Every OVS tent, awning, and crossbar listing shows its weight — or send us your list and we’ll run the numbers with you.

About the Brand

About Overland Vehicle Systems

Overland Vehicle Systems builds gear for people who’d rather spend their money on the trip than on the logo.
